Villa Carla is based in the countryside with spectacular mountain views and within walking distance (800 metres) of the vibrant market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. Sleeping up to 14 people, this villa provides luxurious accommodation for large groups of family or friends, and is perfectly situated to visit historical sights, the coast and the beautiful national parks in the area. The pool is open from mid May to end of September.
The 14 metre swimming pool with jacuzzi, in the large garden of the villa, is filled with healing saltwater. There are breath taking views from the pool of the surrounding valleys and the Apuane Alps. Good quality wooden pool furniture and towels are provided.
With its close proximity to 3 National Parks and the Bagni di Lucca thermal baths, Villa Carla really is a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Lucca, Pisa, Florence and the coast, can all be reached by road or by train from the local train station (2km); which gives you the option of not having to hire a car for your visit.
The Apuane Alps are a favourite place for many outdoor activities such as climbing, mountain biking, hiking, horse riding as well as caving and canyoning. We have close links to an outdoor activities company and can help to make arrangements. There are tennis courts in Castelnouvo and a 9 hole golf course 6km away. Cookery classes at the villa can also be arranged.
Villa Carla lies in almost an acre of private land and mature garden .The villa is constructed in a modern way but is built respecting the traditions of Tuscany, using materials available in the area, like wooden beams and rafters handcrafted in local chestnut and floor tiles handmade in Tuscany.
A notable feature is the large hallway with a staircase which has beautiful hand crafted, wrought iron railings and banisters.
There are 2 sitting rooms in the villa. The main room has comfortable leather sofas, large screen TV with some satellite channels, computer with broadband Internet access and CD player.
There are large electric French windows leading out to the patio area of the property. To the rear of this bright comfortable room is a formal dining table and seating for up to 14 people.
Leading off the back of the dining area is the main kitchen. This kitchen also has a breakfast table and chairs for 8 and is fully furnished with oven, cooking hobs, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave oven, double sink and coffee machine. There is also a second fully equipped kitchen with dining for 6.
There are 6 double and 1 twin bedroom in the villa, two are on the ground floor with a shared shower room and separate toilet. One of the bedrooms has a doorway with direct access to the garden.
On the ground floor is a second smaller living area, with sofas, a 32 inch TV with some satellite channels, a computer with internet access and CD player.
Upstairs, there are 5 double bedrooms, all ensuite, with wardrobe, dresser and TV. The master double has a separate dressing area with wardrobes, and a large bathroom with Jacuzzi corner bath, his and hers sinks, WC and bidet. There are French windows in 3 of the upstairs bedrooms leading to the balcony terrace area with lovely views of the garden, the mountains and the town fortress. All bedrooms are equipped with a wired music system.
In the basement area there is a large garage with remote control door for 2 cars (covered space outside for a further 2 cars), 1 bathroom with shower, washroom with washing machine, a sink and an ironing area.
Villa Carla is excellent for wedding receptions. Accommodation for extra guests or larger groups can be arranged nearby.

The villa is spacious and very well equipped. The pool is excellent. The town is close but a car is needed for the middle aged unless they are moderately fit. The station is further out of town and does not have a taxi rank. The staff in the station bar will call taxis. Simone Romei, a recommended driver, couldn't be more helpful and speaks excellent english. He was tied up with local fireman duties for one week whilst we were there but recommended another driver. A list of recommended local services and instructions on fuse boxes and kitchen equipment would be useful. There was a storm one night which tripped the gate switch, it took about half a hour to find the fuse box with that switch. This is all the negatives about the villa. The local town is excellent. It is not a tourist centre. It serves a local community so prices are very reasonable, there are excellent restaurants and most of all it is quintessentially Italian. We loved the villa and thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing holiday in the most beautiful surroundings.

Lovely house with very good location, well furnished with very nice rooms and great space, nice pool area with stunning views, the house is in a peaceful area and about 15 min walk from the cozy town of Garfagnana. There is virtually everything in the house, however, the outdoor furniture needs a replacement and you fill up the house (14 beds there are no sunbeds for all). The owner is nice and nice and wants his guests the best, but speaks only Italian! We had a lovely week with perfect weather, treks and, not least, we had land cycling in the very mountainous area :-) perfect for our group

Wonderful villa, private pool and garden, spectacular views and close to the town to take advantage of the local restaurants. The mountain environment was wonderful. We had a specific requirement for wheelchair access and for anyone requiring this the villa was very suitable. Local taxis were able to take the wheelchair also.

The owners were lovely people very friendly, the villa was gorgeous we could not fault it, it was perfect. The locals were friendly and the little village that was appox 15min walk away had plenty of cafes and the food and drinks were at very reasonable prices. This was our first trip to Italy and we are definitely going to go back as it was such a beautiful place where we completely relaxed.

Villa Carla innfridde absolutt våre forventninger. Selve huset og uteområdet var stort og romslig. Det hadde god standard, var ryddig og rent. Det var en garasje med to parkeringsplasser. Ellers var det god plass til å parkere utenfor huset. Det var tilrettelagt for å kunne grille i hagen. Her var det langbord og en helt ny grill. Velutstyrt kjøkken med moderne hvitevarer. På badet var det nok av håndsåpe og håndkle. Vert / eier av huset var hyggelig og hjelpsom. Husvert kunne begrenset med engelsk, noe som kunne føre til misforståelser. Stort sett gikk dette greit. Savnet flere kleshengere i skapene. Totalt sett var vi svært fornøyd med huset og oppholdet. Kan anbefale dette stedet!

We were a family group of 5 adults and 3 children aged 11, 8 & 6. The villa is spacious to say the least with 2 lounge areas and 2 kitchens if needed! There is a table tennis table in the garage area as well as a laundry room with washing machine. The villa had Wifi which worked perfectly well with the 5 devices we hooked up to it. TVs in all bedrooms and both lounges have access to Italian TV, no English speaking satellite channels, and there are a couple of DVD players (well used when you have a week of rain!!) The pool is set in spacious gardens and is solar heated, unfortunately we had rain for most of the week we were there so cant comment on how effective this heating is. The gardens have plenty of grassed areas good for playing ball games with the kids. There is a small charcoal barbecue available for use too. The owners live just five minutes from the property so are on hand for any problems that need resolving. We found them both very pleasant and eager to ensure our stay went well. Please note that they do not speak English so practise your Italian or take a dictionary to make communicating with them easier. The villa is located on the hillside overlooking Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and has wonderful views of the surrounding Tuscan hills, it should be noted that the walk into the town takes about 15 minutes (20 mins to return uphill) but because the villa is on the hillside the walk is a steep one. Not recommended for the elderly or less mobile. A taxi back from town cost us 15 Euros, but that was for 8 of us in a minibus. The town has a selection of good restaurants spread around and also a few shops plus a supermarket. The market on a Thursday is mainly cheap clothes so don’t expect a traditional continental market with food, fruit and veg etc… There is a train station in the town and the train to Lucca takes just under an hour (11 Euros return), the journey is a picturesque one along the river and Lucca is worth a visit for a day out.
Villa Carla is 1.2KM walk from the centre of the large market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. It is fabulously situated for such a large villa with pool.
Castelnuovo, has many restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets and all other types of shops. There is a tourist information office, train station and a weekly market selling a wide variety of fashion, household goods, flowers, fruit and vegetables.
Castelnuovo is in the Tuscan region 'Garfagnana' which is often described as 'Hidden Tuscany' at its best. With stunning scenery it is the perfect area in Tuscany for walking and outdoor activities.
Lucca 50 minutes drive or train journey
Pisa 1.5 hour drive or train journey
Cinque Terre 1.5 hour drive or train journey
Florence 2 hours drive or train journey
Mountain biking, hill walking and horse riding are all available locally.
Forti di Marmi and Viareggio are the nearest beach resorts, just over an hour's drive.
Lerici is a particularly nice fishing town further North on the coast, near the Cinque Terre.
You can take boats to the Cinque Terre at Viareggio, Forti dei Marmi and other places including Portovenere.
Other recommended places to visit include Barga, Isola di Santa, Silico, Corfino San Pellegrino, Bagni di Lucca, Hermitage of Calomini (Gallicano), Grotta de Vento, Verrucole Fortress, and Castiglione di Garfagnana.
